Convention Season

Convention season is about to start (no, really, summer is almost here.) I wanted to post about a few conventions that are coming to our neighborhood in the next month.

First, Planet Comic Con is in Kansas City. It’s a real good con with some fairly big guests and a large dealer room. That con is the weekend of May 5th and 6th and this year the guest of honor will be Jim Lee. Richard Hatch from Battlestar Galactica will also be attending. Personally, this is my favorite of the bigger conventions in the midwest each year. I highly reccomend it, especially over the discrace that Chicago’s wizard con has become. Secondly is one I have not been to, per say.  It’s the Micro-con of Minnesota.  I love the larger show they have in October and I have an understanding this is simmilar, just smaller (THis year’s Fall con is Oct. 6th and 7th.)  Micro is at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds April 29th.  It’s only six bucks to get in and they have Doug Manke, Tom Nguyen and Bronze Age Legend Herb Trimpe.  here’s a link: www.mncba.com

Another con which is considerably more affordable and much much closer is right here in Des Moines. The I-Con is Saturday, May 19th. Most of you probably all ready know of this con or have been to it in the past, however, you may not know that the guest list is real good this year and will include Mike Grell,a true god of comics for those of us who read 20 years ago, Mark Shultz and Joe Staton, among many more. Advance tickets are on sale now (here at the shop) and only $5, as apposed to $8 at the door. For more information go here: www.iowacomicbookclub.org/index_files/Page381.htm
