The Week of December 1st

Comics are delayed this week by a day and will be in on Thursday.  I found out that UPS was not picking up last Friday and that is the reason for the delay… not like you don’t do enough business to sort-of, you know, make arrangements… nah, silly me thinking outside of some of box.

We have an event at the shop this weekend, one I am very happy to be a part of.  I would like to invite you all to a Very Geeky Christmas, a charity event on Saturday, December 6th to benefit Animal Life Line, Toys for Tots and Iowa Public Television.
It will start at 11:00 a.m. and activities will include a drop off site for Toys for Tots.  Donations will receive chances to win prizes.  We will also be a place to get gift wrapping finished with a donation to Animal Life Line (from 11am to 6pm.)  There will also be a Geek Boutique to benefit Iowa Public Television.
Some of the other events during the day will include:
•    Children’s Christmas Crafts: Christmas Card & Ornament Making and Letters to Santa, 11am-5pm.
•    Quick and easy ideas for displaying your Christmas village: 1-1:30.
•    Holiday Story Time with Our Pal Al from Waldenbooks: 3:30-4:30.
•    Appearances by characters from Star Wars: Darth Vader and The Central Garrison of the 501st Legion: Noon-4:00pm.
•    An appearance by Santa: 3-5:00pm.
•    Holiday Family Movie Night: 5:30-9:00pm.
•    There will also be door prizes for kids all day.
This is the type of event that I feel is why businesses exist, to give something back to the community.  I am a very big animal lover and Animal Life Line is one of my and Kathy’s, who is putting on the event, favorite charities.  The day is not a success if we make money.  It’s a success if the charities make money.
So, please, consider coming down and hanging out for a little bit, sharing some holiday spirit and maybe you can ask Santa (who I happen to have known all my life, hmmm, who could be in that suit?) for something really nice for Christmas.
Any help in spreading the word for this event would be greatly appreciated, too.  It isn’t necessarily just for little ones, but if you have any stop by and see Santa or Darth Vader, or just stop by and help a good cause, or three.

Last year we had a small group go to an Iowa Stars game.  It was fun and we drank some beer and enjoyed some good hockey.  A new season, different team, but still a desire for hockey and beer.  I have the ability to get tickets at $9.00 each for the Iowa Chops game on Saturday, December 20th.  The Chops are a much better run organization then the Stars were.  I play in a rec league at Wells Fargo and have a small season ticket package.  They are very easy to work with and if you haven’t been to a game, the team is very good and physical (even if we lost the best player in the AHL – Bobby Ryan – to the parent Anaheim Ducks.)  Consider it, but I need to know very soon.  Any number tickets you want, you can have, all at $9.00 each.  Should be a good time.
